VIRTUAL - Hug, Marry, Run Away Love VULTRA
Last year we brought you the Lockdown Love VULTRA, when we ran round the virtual streets of London chasing virtual love hearts and virtual hugs, oh and each other. This year we're back with another Valentines VULTRA special - the Hug, Marry, Run Away Love VULTRA and this one comes with a massive 145mm heart shaped glitter medal.
The Hug, Marry, Run Away Love VULTRA will start on Tuesday 1st February 2022 at 12.00am (UK Time). The event will officially end on Monday 28th February 2022 at midnight - 28 days later.
The exciting bit :
As with all our VULTRAS - you'll get a sequential BIB when you sign up. There will be a route map and central results and progress landing page on the 'VULTRA' Phoenix Running website, and each competitor will have their own virtual location pin (complete with their name and BIB number for tracking your virtual progress) and you can even have your profile picture appear. Once you start your virtual run you'll submit your mileage as you go, which, once approved, will automatically move you around the map.
But where are we running during lockdown?
The route is a 10.7 mile loop around central London and it's not just any 10.7 mile loop - oh no! You can run / walk / crawl a little bit around it, or as many times around it as you like in the 28 days. Anyone completing one lap in the 28 days will earn the epic love-buckle, to be sent out at the end of day 28. But why not keep going and see how many loops you can do and here's why!
But where are we going and what are we doing?
Well, I'm glad you asked because the start point is at the Elephant Square roundabout in Elephant and Castle for no reason other than it formed a rather nice tip for our love heart shaped route. From there we're going to run north west across the River Thames, past Covent Garden and up around Kings Cross, then down to Clerkenwell, back up through Shoreditch and down to Hackney, Lime Street and through the City of London before re-crossing the Thames river and heading south west back down to Elephant and Castle. The route is a giant love heart shape and we'll have virtual aid stations and checkpoints where you can collect love hearts virtual hugs. And, of course the more miles you do the more hearts and hugs you can VIRTUALLY collect. We'll have a 'hearts and hugs' counter on the results pages and some luverly prizes up for grabs throughout the month.
When you sign up you'll be asked to select from one of the following options, really just so you can set your own goal, but in reality you can run as little or as much as you like. You WILL not be held to these distances, you can basically do what the hell you like.
There are 6 meaningless entry options;
- 10.7 miles - just give me the damn medal
- 32.1 miles - 3 loops because I run marathons or more
- 53.5 miles - 5 loops for a 50 miler +
- 64.2 miles - 6 loops just because
- 107 miles - 10 loops for a 100 miler +
- 128.4 miles or more - 12 loops+ show me the hearts and hugs baby!
