Saturday 22 February 2020
I'm delighted to announce that Phoenix Running will be hosting the 2020 edition of the annual 100 Marathon Club AGM Marathon and Timed Running Event on 22nd February 2020.
The 2020 100 Club Marathon AGM event will be a Marathon (Handicap Race) & a 7 hour Timed Running event welcoming all abilities of runner. We want to attract as many 100MC members as possible so we hope you'll come and join us for the marathon. We are also keen to welcome all non-members and runners with all abilities to come and join us for our 7 hour timed event.
After the event we will be hosting the 100 Marathon Clubs Annual General Meeting at a nearby venue.
What's a handicapped race?
A handicapped race is an event where a staggered start is applied to the runners based on an average of their most recent three marathon finish times - the idea being that the entire field becomes evened out with every runner having an equal chance of crossing the finish line first. Using this technique, runners will start running every few minutes with the fastest runners starting last.
What's a Timed Event?
In the timed event you choose from 5km to 10k, half to marathon to ultra, you can complete as many, or as few, laps as you like of a 5.3km, 3.28 mile, lapped course along the beautiful River Thames within the overall 7 hour time limit. This format welcomes absolutely all abilities of runner - complete one lap and you're both a finisher and a winner in our eyes, or keep going and see how far you can get in the full 7 hour time limit and everyone gets the fabulous bespoke finishers' medal (rumour has it there might be two medals).
Not sure? Well the beauty of this format is that you don't even need to decide in advance - simply come and run a lap and see how you feel on the day and keep on going if it feels right - how fantastic would it be to complete you first marathon at the 100MC AGM!
Places will be strictly limited so don't leave it too late to enter.
Off road trail and waterside towpath. The overall course has almost no elevation gain / loss.
