VIRTUAL - Everest Mountain VULTRA

Fancy something completely different, then how about running through one of the coldest, most brutal and highest places on earth and finishing on the summit of Mount Everest - VIRTUALLY.

Then look no further than the 'Everest Mountain VULTRA' brought to you by Phoenix Running.

The Everest Mountain VULTRA will start at Lukla near the Tenzing Hillary Airport and to start with we're going on an acclimatisation loop which its own right takes in some of the highest peaks in Nepal, such as Mera at 6,476m, Chamlang at 7,319m, Hongku Chuli at 6,833m and Kyashar at 6,769m. Once we mastered running virtually at these sorts of altitudes and bagged a few impressive peaks we'll be heading out along the Everest Trekking route where we'll pass through all manner of fascinating places, including Namche Bazar. We'll be making a couple of out and back runs along the Dingboche Chukhung Path to visit the Chukhung baker and up the Kala Pattar Ascent Trail to the view point at the Kala Patthar Summit. Then it's a straight slog up to Everest Base Camp, but we're not stopping there because we've mapped out a totally unique route that takes us through Everest Camp 1 and Everest Camp 2, across the Lhotse face through Everest Camps 3 and 4 and then we're running from the South Col up the Hillary Step and finishing at the top of the world, right on the summit of Mount Everest at 8,849m, where I'll be waiting for you with a high five and a cheeky grin - VIRTUALLY!

The route is 116.7 miles and if this were an actual footrace then I'd take a bet it would one of the most brutal 100+ milers on the planet.

The 'Everest Mountain VULTRA' has something for everyone; from seasoned ultra runners to those who are new to running and want to try something awesome, and high up, and cold. Oh and of course there will be the epic bling - obviously!

There are 6 entry options;

The event will officially start on Monday 1st February 2021 from 12.00am (UK time) - there will be a Facebook race brief in the chat groups at 08.45am for a more civilised suggested start time of 09.00am (UK time) . The event will then run through February 2021 and March 2021 and entry will remain open right through until late March. You can choose when you actually start and you ultimately have until March 31st 2021 to complete your run, but make sure you leave enough time to finish, depending on your entry type.

The exciting bit :

You'll get a bespoke, sequential BIB when you sign up. There will be a route map and central results and progress landing page on the 'VULTRA' Phoenix Running website, and each competitor will have their own virtual location pin (complete with their name and BIB number for tracking your virtual progress) and you can even have your profile picture appear. Once you start your virtual run you'll submit your mileage as you go which, once approved, will automatically move you along the map. So, if you're doing the 'Week Long' option and go out and run 20 miles on day one, then you'll move 20 miles along our Himalayan paths and have 96.7 miles left to cover. The route is 116.7 miles through the very heart of the Himalayas and finishes right on the peak of the highest mountain on earth. Pretty cool, hey. Once you've submitted enough mileage to get to the finish then you are an official finisher of the Everest Mountain VULTRA! Your total miles and total time will be added to the finisher results, you'll show as 'COMPLETE' and we'll send you your epic bling!

This is a challenge for literally anyone of any running ability. If you're new to running, fancy something a bit different, or fancy your first foray into multi-day endurance challenges, want to practice running consistent distances over consecutive days, or just want to see how many miles you can run in a week, then this is for you. And, if you're a seasoned ultra runner, then we'd love to have you aboard to see if you can cover the distance all in one go.

The Everest Mountain VULTRA is also event #4 in the VULTRA-Six Series.
