Fancy a completely unique running challenge this New Year? Think you could run 1 mile, on the hour, every hour, for 6 or more hours - maybe up to 27 hours?. Well, here's an endurance challenge with a difference because starting at 10am UK time we're going to literally chase the New Year's Eve celebrations around the globe, by running 1 mile on the hour every hour and welcoming in each New Year around the planet; beginning with Samoa & Christmas Island and finishing with Baker and Howland Islands, the outlaying US. We're going to virtually take you around the world from New Zealand, to Australia, through the Far East, Europe, London, South America and the USA and each hour we'll run another mile and welcome in another New Year in yet another country! Awesome!
Based on our epic P24 concept it sounds simple right - starting at 10.00am (UK time) you run 1 mile at any pace you like. You can run out and back, up and down your road, round the block, in your garden, even on a treadmill. Then at 11.00am (UK time) you do it again, any pace you like. Same again at 12, 1, 2, 3, 4......on the hour, every hour, 1 mile, run, walk or crawl, you get the idea.... and where we have runners participating from around the world we'll get folks to post their New Years celebrations photos, so we can shout 'Happy New Year' again and again!
For our P-NY Chaser you can run any number of miles from 6 consecutive miles or more to get the epic 12mm thick, freestanding medal. If you run 1 mile on the hour each hour for 6 miles or more then you're an official finisher! We hope folks will join us for 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours or push for the full round the world time frame which will involve running 27 mile runs on the hour each hour!
You'll get a bespoke, sequential BIB when you sign up and then on the day we'll ask you to share some of your miles and stories to our Facebook chat groups, and then submit one total result through Phoenix World at the end.
This is a challenge for literally anyone of any running ability. If you're new to running, fancy something completely different or fancy your first foray into endurance challenges, running at night, trying out a 6 hours, 12 hour or 24 hour + challenge with a difference then this is for you. Let's chase the New Year baby!
And if you're a seasoned ultra runner, then we'd love to have you aboard and this might not be quite as straightforward as you think.
There will, as mentioned be the totally epic medal - a freestanding 'NY' weighing in at the best part of half a kilo and continuing our epic P-Series.
So why not join us this New Year, wherever you may be in the world, for something completely different - I mean it's not like there will be many parties going on, right? So let's make our own VIRTUAL running party and chase the New Year!
Here is the full schedule of New Year Celebrations we'll be chasing, so why not join us for some or all of it.
